Advertisers
Advertisers defines the individual companies advertising on your web site.
Add A New Advertiser
* Company Name: Enter the Advertising Companies name. 
Description: Enter an optional description for the company.   This is for information purposes only and is not utilized by Ban Man Pro.
* Run of Network: Select all sites on which this advertiser will run a campaign.  Note: Sites with ** indicate this advertiser is active on that site.  Do not de-select such advertisers until you have removed their campaigns from zones on that site.
Select All Users With Access to this advertiser: Select all users who will have access to this advertiser.  If you have not created any users then this option will not appear. 
Login Information/Email Reports

Login Name: Enter the Login Name to be used by the advertiser for viewing real-time statistics for their advertising campaign.
Login Password: Enter the Login Password to be used by the advertiser for viewing real-time statistics for their advertising campaign.
Email: Enter the email address of the contact.   This will be used by Ban Man Pro for emailing reports.
Daily Report: Check this option to automatically email the advertiser a daily report.  Reports are sent just after midnight each day.
Weekly Report: Check this option to automatically email the advertiser a weekly report.  This report is emailed just after midnight Saturday (early Sunday morning).
Monthly Report: Check this option to automatically email the advertiser a monthly report.  This report is emailed just after midnight on the first day of each month.  The report covers the previous month.
Email Campaign Expiration Notices Check this option to email the advertiser when their campaign expires.  To customize the message sent in this report, click Setup--Report Templates in the admin setup area.

Other Information

The remaining fields are optional and for information purposes.  The only field that is utilized by Ban Man Pro is the Company Logo field.

Company Logo:  Enter a company logo that will be displayed when this advertiser views reports.  This field must contain a fully qualified URL such as http://www.theirdomain.com/image.gif

Banners

Each advertiser can have an unlimited number of banners.  A banner could be an animated GIF image, JPEG image, Flash banner, Text Link, 3rd-party ad tags, etc.

View All

Use this option to view all banners that have already been entered into the system.

Filtering Banners

Banners can be filtered in order to display them for a specific Advertiser or to display banners of a specific type, or banners of a specific size.  Either choose an advertiser from the drop-down menu and/or choose the type of banners you wish to view.  If you want to avoid displaying the images, uncheck the Display Banners checkbox.

Edit

Use this option to edit an existing banner.

Copy

Use this option to copy a banner and create a duplicate.  This is useful when you need to create a new banner based off an existing banner.

# Of Campaigns/ Edit Campaigns

This column displays how many campaigns currently use this banner.  The edit link next to the count can be used to assign the banner to one or more campaigns.

Delete

This option completely removes a banner from the system.  Once deleted, all associated statistics are lost.

Add Standard

Use the Add Standard option to add a new banner ad in the form of a GIF, JPEG, or other type of image.  Because the Banner records are specific to an advertiser, you must add at least one advertiser before specifying a banner.

Advertiser Name (required)

Select the advertiser under which this new banner will be added. 

Description (required)

Enter a description for the banner.  If an advertiser only has a single banner you might use the same name as the advertiser. 

Active

Check this option to activate the banner.  When unchecked a banner is inactive and will not appear on the campaigns screen when adding a new campaign.

Notes

Enter any optional notes for information purposes.  Some customers use this field to keep track of any changes they make to the banner.


Banner Properties

Image Url (required)

Enter the URL for the banner ad to be displayed.  Use the fully qualified URL rather than a virtual URL.  This is necessary if you plan on displaying a banner ad on multiple pages that reside in different directories within your web site.

Target URL (required)

Enter the target URL for when a visitor to your site clicks on this specific banner.  Be sure to enter the fully qualified URL including the http://.  The Target URL is typically the homepage of the advertisers web site.

For example, if you are running an advertisement for Microsoft, the Target URL might be http://www.microsoft.com 

Width (required)

Enter the width of the image in pixels.

Height (required)

Enter the height of the image in pixels.

Alt Text

Enter any optional text to display when the users hovers the mouse over the banner ad.

Border

Enter the image border in pixels (typically zero).

Alignment

Enter the banner alignment.

Text Underneath

Enter any optional text to display underneath the banner ad such as "Visit Our Sponsors".  If the user clicks on the text, it will be treated as a click-thru just as though the user clicked on the corresponding image.  You can also enter HTML formatting to format the text.

Target Window

Use this option to launch a new browser when clicking a banner ad.  _Blank can be used to launch a new browser.  _Top will open within the same window but will ensure that the web site is not opened inside a frame. If your site uses Frames, this field can also be used to set the target frame. 

Add rel="nofollow"

Check this option to include a re="nofollow" command within all A HREF tags.  This command will prevent some spiders from following the link.

Add Advanced

Use this option to add a new banner using your own Ad Code.  This feature is necessary for using third party ad code through various advertising agencies such as BurstMedia, ValueClick, FlyCast, etc.  Click here for more information on 3rd Party Ad Code.   This option can also be used to enter HTML, Javascript, and other rich media advertisements.

Advertiser Name (required)

Select the advertiser under which this new banner will be added. 

Description (required)

Enter a description for the banner.  If an advertiser only has a single banner you might use the same name as the advertiser. 

Active

Check this option to activate the banner.  When unchecked a banner is inactive and will not appear on the campaigns screen when adding a new campaign.

Advanced Banner Properties

 

Ad Code (required)

Specify the banner ad code.  This is typically HTML code but could also include Javascript, flash object code, etc.

Here is example code for displaying a text link:

The parameter [BanManProURL] is used to track clicks.  In the target URL field http://www.banmanpro.com would be entered.

Target URL (required)

Enter the target URL for when a visitor to your site clicks on this specific banner.  Be sure to enter the fully qualified URL including the http://.  The Target URL is typically the homepage of the advertisers web site.

For example, if you are running an advertisement for Microsoft, the Target URL might be http://www.microsoft.com 


Code for Netscape Browsers

 

Use Above Code in Netscape

Check this box to use the same code entered into the Ad Code field for Netscape browsers.  Or, if you wish to use an alternative set of code for netscape, enter the code in the Netscape Ad Code field.

Netscape Ad Code

If you did not check "Use Above Code in Netscape" then you must enter the code to be used in Netscape browsers.  Failure to populate this field will cause blank banners in Netscape.


Banner Properties for Browsers that do not Support Javascript

 

Image Url (required)

Enter the URL for the banner ad to be displayed.  Use the fully qualified URL rather than a virtual URL.  This is necessary if you plan on displaying a banner ad on multiple pages that reside in different directories within your web site.

Add Popup

Use this option to enter a popup or popunder advertisement.  The popup/popunder can contain an image, HTML, or a web page.  When using this option, a step-by-step wizard is presented.  This utility simply creates an Advanced banner containing the Javascript that will create the popup.  Once the advanced banner is created, you should create a campaign and add the campaign to a zone.  You may wish to create a separate 1X1 pixel zone that will only serve popups.  The steps for creating a popup/popuner are:

  1. Use the Add Popup option and follow the steps to create the Advanced Banner.
  2. Add the newly created advanced banner to a campaign or create a new campaign.
  3. Assign the new campaign to a zone.  You may create a 1X1 pixel zone exclusively for popups.

Note: To limit the number of times a popup is displayed to the same user, place a Frequency Cap on the campaign.  If the Frequency Cap option is not visible on the campaigns screen, you must first check "Support Frequency Caps using Cookies" in the setup area.

Add Flash Banner

Use this option to enter a Flash banner into Ban Man Pro.  Flash Movies (.SWF) files, are not Images and cannot be entered as a standard banner.  Instead, they must be entered using Flash object code.  The Add Flash object will create this flash object code for you.

There are two types of Flash Object code.  The first can detect if the client browser supports displaying flash banners.  If flash is not installed, an image will be served instead.

The second type does not detect this capability and instead continually prompts the user to install flash on their computer.

The steps for entering a flash banner are:

  1. Use the Add Flash option under Banners.  Complete the steps in the simple wizard to create the flash object code.  The banner is now entered into the system as an Advanced banner.
  2. Assign the new banner to a campaign.
  3. Assign the campaign to a zone.

Note: In order to track clicks in flash banners, the movie must be programmed for click tracking.  Please see the link below for more information.

Add Text Link

Use this option to enter a STATIC text link into the system.  If you wish to rotate text links you must enter your own HTML into the system as an Advanced Banner.

Advertiser Name (required)

Select the advertiser under which this new banner will be added. 

Description (required)

Enter a description for the banner.  If an advertiser only has a single banner you might use the same name as the advertiser. 

Active

Check this option to activate the banner.  When unchecked a banner is inactive and will not appear on the campaigns screen when adding a new campaign.

Type

Select the type of banner.  An advanced text link can be rotated through zones just like a standard gif banner.  A static text link is "static" and cannot be rotated.  A static text link is more useful for an email campaign.

Notes

Enter any optional notes for information purposes.  Some customers use this field to keep track of any changes they make to the banner.


Text Link Properties

Link Text

Enter the text to be used for this link.  For example, "Click here to visit Microsoft.com".

Note: This field may contain HTML tags if you wish to add formatting to the link.

Target URL (required)

Enter the target URL for when a visitor to your site clicks on this specific link.  Be sure to enter the fully qualified URL including the http://.  The Target URL is typically the homepage of the advertisers web site.

For example, if you are running an advertisement for Microsoft, the Target URL might be http://www.microsoft.com 

Target Window

Add Transition or Floating Ad
Use this option to create a floating ad or a transition ad.  A floating ad appears to float on top of the other content on the web page.  The ad is visible until the user closes the ad.  A transition ad covers up all content on the page and the content is not visible until the ad is closed.  You can change the template for these ads in the Admin Setup area under Ad Templates.  You ad content must contain [BanManProURL] in order to track clicks.

Ban Man Pro Version 10 introduced sponsorship text ads that look similar to Google Adwords ads.  These ads can be served individually in a zone or as a series of ads in a line either horizontally or vertically.

Creating a Sponsorship Text Ad

To create a sponsorship text ad, click Banners.  Next choose the last tab across the top called Add Sponsorship Text Ad.

Complete the fields by entering a headline, description, display URL and the advertisers Target URL.  As you type the sample ad will update to display how the ad will appear.  Once finished, click Next Step then complete adding the advanced banner.

Modifying the look and feel of the sponsorship text ad by modifying the template

The template is modified under Setup--Ad Templates.  Modify the template titled "Template for Sponsorship Text Ad".  You must include ##Headline##, ##TargetURL##, ##Description## and ##DisplayURL## in order to dynamically insert the Headline, Target URL, Description and Display URL of the advertisement respectively.

Serving Sponsorship Text Ads

Sponsorship text ads can be served individually in a zone just as you would other campaigns.  However, if you wish to serve several sponsorship ads in a line and have them rotate with each refresh, do the following.

  1. Once the sponsorship ads are created, create the proper campaign for each ad.  The Campaign Type must be weighted as Equal or Even campaigns cannot be served as sponsorship ads.
  2. If you have not yet created a zone for these ads, proceed to create a zone.  Otherwise, if a zone for these ads already exists, edit the zone and select the individual campaigns holding the sponsorship ads.  Make sure the zone weighting system is set to relative and give each campaign a weight of 1.  Please note you cannot use the zone refresh option with the sponsorship ad tags.
  3. Now clicks Zones--View All.  Click the CODE link next to the zone.
  4. Find the Sponsorship Code and place it on the page where you wish to serve the ads.

Customizable settings for the sponsorship ad tags include:

  • Change CountImpressions to False if you do not want to count impressions.
  • Change Total=0 to the total number of ads to display. 0 will display all ads in the zone. For example, if you have 8 ads in the zone and only want to display four at-a-time then set Total= 4.
  • To display ads horizontally, append "&Horizontal=True&MaxColumns=5" where MaxColumns is the maximum number of ads to display horizontally. For example, if setting MaxColumns to 5 and Total to 10 then you would get two rows each with 5 ads.

 

 

Campaigns

Campaigns simply group banners for a single advertiser into a "Campaign" which defines the flight dates, distribution, quantity, cost, etc.  A campaign also defines the weightings of banners should an advertiser have more than one banner.  Campaigns are specific to an advertiser, yet a single advertiser could have multiple campaigns.  All banners within a campaign SHOULD be the same size.

Ban Man Pro supports the following Campaign Types:

  • Standard Banner Campaign -- This is the standard type of campaign which allows you to rotate any number of banner(s).

  • Static Banners --  Static Banners allow you to display a static banner on a web page.  This is particularly useful for sponsorships or when you are charging an advertiser on a Per Click basis.  

  • Static Text -- A Static Text campaign allows you to place a static text link on a web page.

View All Campaigns

Use this option to view all campaigns that have already been entered into the system.

Filtering Campaigns

Campaigns can be filtered in order to display them for a specific Advertiser, distribution, type, and based on whether or not they have expired.  Campaigns can also be filtered based on specific search terms.

Edit

Use this option to edit an existing campaign.

Copy

Use this option to copy a campaign and create a duplicate.  This is useful when you need to create a new campaign based off an existing campaign.

Zones

Use this option to assign a campaign to existing zones, or to remove or edit the zones which this campaign falls under.  If the campaign is of type even, you simply select the zone to add it to the rotation.  If the type is weighted you must select and weight the campaign in each zone.  For weighted campaigns it is preferable that you assign campaigns to each zone at the Zone level to ensure proper weightings.

Use the "Remove this Campaign from All Zones" to remove a campaign from all zones.  This is useful for removing expired campaigns from all zones.

Served/ Reset Stats

This column displays how many impressions have already been served for this campaign.  The reset link can be used to reset the number of impressions back to zero.  All stats for this campaign are lost when resetting the stats.

Delete

This option completely removes a campaign from the system.  Once deleted, all associated statistics are lost.

Add Standard

Use this option to add a new standard campaign.  A standard campaign is one which can be rotated within one or more zones.

Advertiser Name (required)

Select the advertiser to which this campaign is assigned.

Campaign Name (required)

Specify a descriptive name for this campaign.  If an advertiser will only have one campaign you might choose the Advertiser Name.  Ban Man Pro automatically defaults to the advertisers name.  Note that campaign names must be uniqe.

On Hold

Use this option to temporarily place a campaign on hold.  When placed on hold a campaign is not displayed on your web site.

Banners (required)

Select all banners to be rotated in this campaign.  Enter the weighting for this campaign.  Valid values are INTEGERS.  Banner weightings are relative to one another.  For example, if I select two banners each weighted as 1 then they will rotate evenly.  If I have two banners, one weighted as 1 and the other as 2, then then second is shown twice as often. 

NOTE:  All banners within a campaign should be the same size.  The size will be listed in parentheses next to the banner name. 

Default Campaign

Check this box if the campaign is being setup as a default.  A default campaign is used if no valid campaigns are found at any given moment. For example, if you are running 5 campaigns, and all have expired for one reason or another, no banner would be shown. To prevent nothing from being shown, you could setup a default that would be shown. Typically this might be something advertising something internal to your company. It is a very good idea to setup a default campaign and include it in every zone to prevent broken links or void space on your web site.

Note:  It is recommended that you have 1 default for each banner size running on your site.  This will prevent the occurrence of white space on your web pages.

Notes

Enter any optional notes for information purposes.


Date/Time Information

Start Date (required)

Enter the start date for the campaign.  Note:  You can schedule campaigns to begin in the future.

End Date (required)

Enter the end date for the campaign.  The End date should be later then today's date otherwise the campaign is considered expired.

Daily Start/End Time

Select the period of time to display the ad.   For example to display a campaign between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM, select the appropriate times from the drop-down list.  ** Setting the start time equal to 12:00 AM and the end time equal to 12:00 AM will cause the banner to rotate during all hours.

Note: This is a Daily Start/End time.  It does not simply apply to the first and last day but rather applies to each and every day.

Days of Week

Select the days to show the campaign.   For example, the advertiser might choose to display an ad only on weekdays.   In this case, select Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. ** If using this option, be sure to include a default campaign in the zone that uses this campaign.  This will prevent your web pages from displaying white space if no campaigns are available.


Country Geo-Targeting Information

Select all countries you wish to show this campaign in.  For more information on country geo-targeting, please click here.

Note, this option only appears if you have enabled the geo-targeting option in the admin setup area.


Browser Primary Language Targeting

This option allows you to target ads to specific browser languages.  Each web browser defines one or more languages that it uses.  For example, a browser might have English listed as its primary language and Spanish as a second language.  Ban Man Pro can only target the primary language.


Browser Type Targeting/Operating System Targeting Information

Select all browsers and operating systems to display this campaign to.  Detection of browsers and operating systems is handled by .net and depends on which version of the .net framework is running on your server.  .NET 1.1 detects Firefox browsers as "Netscape" while .NET 2.0 differentiates Firefox.  Because a large number of browsers and operating systems may show up as "Unknown" it is suggested that you select Unknown.


Demographic Targeting

Demographic targeting allows you to target ads based on a user profile or other information you may have stored about your users.  For example, if you collect information such as gender, age, household income, etc. you can pass Ban Man Pro this information and target ads based on the value.

Demographic targeting must first be enabled in the Ban Man Pro setup area under the Demographic Targeting tab.


Competitor Exclusions

Check this box to enable the competitor exclusion feature for this campaign.  Then, select all competitor campaigns that should be excluded when this campaign is served.

Distribution/Other Information

Distribution (required)

Select the campaign distribution type.  Choices include:

  • Equally Distributed By Day over Flight Dates -- Select this distribution of you want Ban Man Pro to equally spread the impressions over the campaign Flight Dates by day.  This option can only be applied to CPM type ads.  For example, if you enter a quantity of 30,000 in 30 days then Ban Man Pro will attempt to serve 1000 impressions per day.
  • Evenly Spread over remaining time -- Use this option to spread the remaining quantity evenly over the remaining time.  This option uses a normalized distribution so that more impressions are served on days that have higher traffic.  Ban Man Pro determines how often to show the campaign based on previous statistics.  It uses the period that you defined in the admin setup area under "Number of Weeks to base Zone Averages On".
  • Weighted in Each Zone -- Select this option if you will be managing the impression of each campaign via a weighting system.  Ban Man Pro now supports 3 weighting systems, 1-100, 1-1000 and a relative weighting system.  You will learn more about the weighting system when creating a zone.
  • Called By Keyword Only (No Distribution)  -- Select this option if the campaign is only to be called by keywords and is served every time a matching keyword is found.
  • Called By Keyword Only (Equally Distributed By Day)  -- Select this option if the campaign is only to be called by keywords but with the impressions distributed over the campaign flight dates.

Type (required)

Select the campaign type. 

  • CPM -- Cost Per Thousand campaign.   Select this campaign when the advertiser is paying you based on the number of impressions.  For example, if the advertiser has purchased 5000 banner impressions and is paying you $30 per thousand, select CPM.
  • Per Click -- Select Per Click if the advertiser is paying you each time a user clicks on the banner ad.  For example, if the advertiser is paying $0.50 cents each time a user clicks on the ad, then select Per Click.
  • Flat Rate -- Select Flat Rate if the advertiser is paying you a flat rate for the advertising campaign.  For example, if you sold the advertiser all impressions on your homepage for $1000, then select Flat Rate.  Also select this if you are not limiting the amount of impressions are clicks and are expiring the campaign by dates only.

Quantity (required)

Enter the quantity sold to the advertiser.   For CPM type campaigns, enter the number of impressions sold.  For Per Click campaigns, enter the maximum number of clicks the advertiser has committed to.  For Flat Rate campaigns, there is no need to enter a value as campaign validation is based solely on the Start/End Date and Times as well as the days selected.

Impression and Click Capping

Use this option to place a daily, weekly, or monthly cap on the number of Impressions (CPM Campaigns and Flat Rate only), or on the number of clicks (Per Click campaigns only).  For example, if a campaign is set with a daily cap of 1000 impressions and 1000 impressions have been served by noon the campaign will discontinue serving impressions for the remainder of the day.

Cost

Enter the cost to the advertiser.  For CPM type campaigns, enter the cost per thousand.   For Per Click campaigns, enter the Cost Per Click.  For Flat Rate campaigns, enter the full amount being charged to the advertiser.

Invoiceable

Check this box to mark a campaign as invoicable.  This field is for information purposes only.

Invoice Status

This information field is used to categorize invoicable campaigns.

Frequency Cap

Enter a frequency cap to limit the number of times this campaign is displayed to the same user.  This option only appears if you have enabled the frequency cap option under setup.   A campaign can be capped based on impressions or clicks.  For example, when based on clicks after the user clicks a particular ad it will no longer be displayed.

Companion Campaign

Check to make this campaign a companion campaign.  Companion ads are used to serve different ads from the same advertiser in two different ads on the same page at the same time.

The campaign must have two banners.  Companion campaigns are not supported with Default or Keyword campaigns.

Session Length

Select the amount of time that defines a session for this campaign.  For example, if entering a frequency cap of 5 and a session length of 2 hours, a person will never see this campaign more than 5 times every 2 hours.  Note that this option applies only if entering a frequency cap greater than 0.

Track ROI

Select this option to measure acquisitions from this campaign.  ROI is an abbreviation for Return On Investment.  Advertisers who wish to measure the success of a campaign may require the measurement of sales, leads, or some other type of transaction or acquisition.  For example, if a web visitor clicks on a banner ad, then visits the advertised site and makes a purchase this can be recorded as an Acquisition that directly resulted from the campaign.  Other events such as signups could also be measured.

Here is how Ban Man Pro measures an Acquisition:

  1. The advertiser places the ROI tracking code on any page they wish to track as an acquisition or sale resulting from this banner or link.

Keywords

Enter keywords for this ad if the Campaign Distribution is Call By Keyword Only.  This will allow you to call this banner advertisement based on keywords.  This option is useful if running a search engine and selling ads based on a particular search phrase.  Note that campaigns called by keyword cannot be displayed in a particular zone and can only be displayed by keyword.  Click here for information on calling a campaign by keywords.

Exact Match Keywords

If calling this campaign by Keyword, enter any exact match keywords or phrases separated by a comma.

Override Zone Refresh

If checked and this campaign is served in a zone using the automatic refresh option this campaign will halt the refresh and remain displayed until the browser is manually refreshed by the user.

Add Static Banner

Use this option to create a static banner.  Static banners are useful for sponsorship type ads.  Static banners are not assigned to a zone, but rather, the code is placed directly on the web site.  Once the static banner has been created, view a listing of the campaigns, then select the Code link to the left of the campaign name.  Copy and paste the code and place it on your web site.

Add Static Text

Use this option to create a static text link.  Static text links are useful for sponsorship type ads.  Static text links are not assigned to a zone, but rather, the code is placed directly on the web site.  Once the static link has been created, view a listing of the campaigns, then select the Code link to the left of the campaign name.  Copy and paste the code and place it on your web site.

Zones
Zones are provided for these main reasons:
  1. To allow you to track statistics for different sized banners across all of your web pages, and
  2. To show multiple ads in DIFFERENT areas(zones) on the same web page. 
  3. To track stats separately across multiple pages.

When placing multiple ads on the same web page, you must use a unique zone for each area that will be showing an ad.  If you don't you might see the same ad appearing twice.  Below is a sample web page showing one of many possible layouts.  Note that each zone is distinct, beginning with zone1 at the top and ending with zone 4.  Actual zone numbers will vary depending on how many you have added to your web site.

The View Zones option shows all zones in the system for the selected Site.

Edit

Use this option to edit an existing zone.

Code

This option displays the zone code that is used to display the banners on your web site.  Once you click the Code link, you are then presented with several choices of ad tags.  Copy and paste the code to the page where you wish to display the banners for this zone.

Copy

Use this option to copy a zone and create a duplicate.  This is useful when you need to create a new zone based off an existing zone.

View

Use this link to display a list of all banners that are currently in rotation in this zone.

Delete

This option completely removes a zone from the system.  Once deleted, all associated statistics are lost.

Add New Zone

Zone Name (required)

Enter a name for this zone.  For example, if the zone is your home page, you might use "Home Page". 

Optional Description/URL

Enter an optional description or Page URL for information purposes only.

Zone Width (required)

Enter the Width of the zone.  For example, if this zone is showing 468 X 60 banner ads, then enter the width as 468.  This information if vital for Ban Man Pro in order to choose the proper default campaign if no valid banner ads are found.

Zone Height (required)

Enter the Height of the zone.  For example, if this zone is showing 468 X 60 banner ads, then enter the height as 60.

Enforce Size Restrictions

If checked, the zone will only serve banners that match the size of the zone.  All others will be ignored.  This option allows you to create campaigns that have different sized banners in them.  Ban Man Pro will only serve banners that match the size of the zone.  For example, you might have a campaign with a 468X60 banner and a 125X125 banner.  By using this option two zones of different sizes can share the same campaign.

Treat As A Master Companion Zone

Check to make this zone a master companion campaign zone.  Companion ads are used to serve different ads from the same advertiser in two different ads on the same page at the same time.

  • Currently companion ads are limited to two zones on a page, however, you can have multiple sets of companion ad zones on a page.  For example, zone 1 and zone 2 could be companions, and zone 3 and 4.
  • Companion ads are always placed in the same campaign.  Since it is assumed they will be of different sizes, the companion feature requires that the zone be set to "Enforce Size Restrictions" so Ban Man Pro can serve the proper campaign in the proper zone.
  • Companion ads are limited to the Javascript ad tags.  This is necessary because javascript renders in order on the page, while IFRAMES do not.
  • The master zone appears higher on the page than the related zone.
  • Make sure you checked the  "Treat As A Master Companion Zone" checkbox for the zone that appears highest on the page and that you chose "Enforce Size Restrictions".
  • Make sure the related zone was also set to "Enforce Size Restrictions"
  • The PageID in the master zone must match that of the related zone.  You can either search/replace the pageID, or you can recreate the ad tags and enter a specific PageID for each zone.

    Zone Disabled

    If checked the zone serves blank images and does not track stats

    Zone Background Color

    Select or enter a color to be used as a background for each zone.  This background applies only to the IFRAME that is displayed in Internet Explorer and Netscape 6+.  If using the SSI or Function call ad tags then this parameter will not be used.  If using the Advanced Java Code or Non-Cache defeating ad tags the color will be displayed as a background.  This is useful for web sites that do not have a white background. 

    Refresh Interval

    Select a refresh interval to automatically load a new advertisement every X seconds.  Enter 0 to avoid refreshing.  The refresh interval will only work if using the Advanced Java Code or Non-Cache defeating code to serve ads.  It will also only work in IFRAME compatible browsers such as Internet Explorer and Netscape 6 or higher.

    Maximum Refresh Threshold (per session) -- Choose a value to limit the maximum number of times a zone refreshes per user per session.  If set to unlimited the refresh will continue until the browser window is closed.

    Select All Users With Access to this Zone

    Select all users who will have access to this zone.  If you have not created any users then this option will not appear. 


     Keyword Campaigns

    Select all keyword campaigns to include in this zone.  To select multiple campaigns, simply hold the CTRL key while clicking on each campaign.  Keyword campaigns take priority, followed by even then weighted campaigns.  Assigning keyword campaigns to zones is new in version 4.0.  This functionality was added to overcome the limitation of not being able to serve multiple sized keyword campaigns on a page.

    Evenly Distributed Campaigns

    Select all evenly distributed campaigns to include in this zone.  To select multiple campaigns, simply hold the CTRL key while clicking on each campaign.  Evenly distributed campaigns take priority, followed by weighted campaigns.  Ban Man Pro first attempts to find if there are any even campaigns that must be served at any given moment.  If no valid even campaigns are found, then Ban Man Pro next attempts to find a valid weighted campaign for this zone.  It is important that you do not oversell your ad space otherwise some evenly distributed campaigns will not deliver in the allocated time.

    Weighted Campaigns

    Weighting System

    Select the weighting system to be used for this zone.  Version 3 of Ban Man Pro introduced two new types of weighting systems called "Relative" and "In Sequence".  Relative is now the default system.

    The following weighting systems are supported:

    100: This is the original weighting system in Ban Man Pro version 1 through 2.2.  The sum of all selected banners should sum to 100.  In the event that the sum is less than 100 the default banner is shown.  This weighting system supports up to 100 campaigns.

    1000: Just like the 100 based system, the sum of all weightings should be 1000, otherwise a default is shown.  This higher weighting system is provided for support of up to 1000 campaigns.

    Relative (Total of All Weightings): This weighting system allows you to essentially use your own weighting system.  All weightings are relative to each other and as long as at least 1 campaign is valid in the zone then the default is NEVER displayed.  For example, if you have three campaigns, giving them each a weighting of 1 would produce the same result as giving them each a weighting of 5 since 1/3 is the same as 5/15.  This system allows you to give one campaign a very high relative weighting so that it will dominate the rotation.  It also supports even rotation of an un-even numbers of campaigns.  Lastly, it allows you to avoid displaying a default to ensure that paid ads are always displayed.

    In Sequence: This weighting system allows you to rotate through the selected campaigns in Sequence.  The weighting of each selected campaign should be 1.  If greater than 1 that campaign will show up X number of times.  For example, suppose I have 3 campaigns as follows:

    Campaign 1, Weight 1
    Campaign 2, Weight 2
    Campaign 3, Weight 1

    By refreshing, the campaign will appear in this order: Campaign 1, Campaign 2, Campaign 2, Campaign 3....  Note that Campaign 2 is repeated twice because the weighting is 2.  Since you typically do not want to repeat a campaign to a web viewer upon refresh, we recommend using a weighting of 1 for all campaigns that are rotated in Sequence.  Also, as long as 1 campaign in the sequence is valid the default will not be displayed.

    Selected Campaigns

    Select all Weighted campaigns to be included in this zone.  Enter the weighting of each campaign within this zone.  Valid values are any integer between 1-100, 1-1000 or 1-Any Number depending on whether the weighting system is 100, 1000 or Relative respectively.  For the In Sequence system a weighting of 1 is recommended.  The weighting MUST be an integer.  For example, suppose you have two advertisers running advertising campaigns in a given month.  You might choose to show one 60% of the time and the other 40% of the time.  In this case you would enter values of 60 and 40 respectively.  When using the 100 or 1000 based weighting system, if the total of all selected weightings is less than the weighting system the default campaign is shown during the remaining time.   If no default is included, a blank 1X1 pixel image will be served.

    For the Relative and In-Sequence weighting systems, as long as at least one campaign is valid that campaign is displayed instead of the default.  This system allows you to avoid displaying a default campaign.

    Note:  Should you desire to create an empty zone for purposes of tracking the number of hits on a page, simply create a zone with no campaigns selected.

    Default Campaigns

    Select one or more default campaigns to include in this zone.  A default is used in the event that a valid campaign is not found, or in the event that your weightings sum to less than the weighting system.  In the case of a relative weighting system, the default is only displayed if all campaigns have expired.  If multiple default campaigns are selected, Ban Man Pro will rotate them evenly.

    Remove Expired Campaigns
    Use this option to remove all expired campaigns from each and every zone.  This is a quick way of cleaning up all zones.  Note if you are using a 100 or 1000 based weighting system you will need to re-adjust your weightings within each zone after removing campaigns.
    Zone Campaign Summary
    The zone campaign summary lists all campaigns found within each zone.  To show only those zones using a specific campaign, choose the campaign from the drop-down menu then click filter.
    Users

    Users are used to assign specific permissions to people who can perform specific functions in Ban Man Pro.  Users can be given permissions for specific Advertisers, Zones, and Sites.  They can also be given access to reports.  For example, if you have a sales representative who manages 5 advertiser accounts, you can create a user account so that they can only view and modify the 5 advertisers as well as view reports for all 5 advertisers.

    Add New User

    Users are used to assign specific permissions to people who will administer and create reports in Ban Man Pro.  Users can be given permissions for specific Advertisers, Zones, and Sites.  They can also be given access to reports.  For example, if you have a sales representative who manages 5 advertiser accounts, you can create a user account so that they can only view and modify the 5 advertisers as well as view reports for all 5 advertisers.

    Name (required)

    Enter a descriptive name of the user.

    Email Address  (required)

    Enter the email address for this user.

    Login Name  (required)

    Enter the username this person will use to log into Ban Man Pro.

    Login Password  (required)

    Enter the password this person will use to log into Ban Man Pro.

    Enabled

    Check the enabled box to enable this user.  Uncheck the box to disable the account.  A user cannot login if their account has been disabled.

    Max File Upload Size

    Enter the maximum file size that this user may upload.  Enter the value in Bytes (10000 or higher). 1,000,000 would be 1 MB. 30,000 would be 30 KBytes.

    Custom Images Path for Uploads/Custom Image URL for Uploads

    Use this option to specify a custom upload path and URL for images uploaded by this user.  If left blank, a default folder off the ads folder is used.  The folder name will default to the PublisherID padded by several zeros.

    Notes

    Enter any optional notes.


     Email Reports

    This option allows you to set this user to receive daily, weekly, monthly email reports as well as campaign expiration notices.   A report listing all campaigns starting today is also available.

    The From Name and From Email can be used to make the report appear to come from a specific person such as a sales person or ad representative.


    Permissions

    Set the permissions for this user.  A description of each permission is shown below:

    View Reports --Allows the user to view reports.  The user will only be able to report on the specific advertisers that you have selected.

    Create Custom Email Reports -- Choose this option to allow this user to create custom email reports that can be sent Daily, Weekly, or Monthly in HTML format or as a CSV attachment.

    View Advertisers -- Allow this user to view advertisers.  The user will only have access to the specific advertisers that you have selected.
    Update -- If checked the user can edit and update the advertisers which the user has access to.
    Add -- If checked the user can create new advertisers.
    Delete - If checked the user can delete advertisers that they have access to.
    View Banners -- Allow this user to view banners.  The user will only have access to banners for the specific advertisers that you have selected.
    Update -- If checked the user can edit and update the banners belonging to advertisers that they have access to.
    Add -- If checked the user can create new banners.

    Delete -- If checked the user can delete banners belonging to the advertisers they are managing.

    Modify Banner Campaign Selections -- Choose this option to allow a user to assign banners to specific campaigns.

    View Campaigns -- Check this option to allow the user to view campaigns.  They will have access only to campaigns for the specific advertisers you have selected.
    Update -- Check this option of the user is allowed to modify an existing campaign.
    Add -- Check this option to allow the user to create new campaigns.
    Delete -- Check this option to allow the user to delete campaigns.
    Reset Stats -- Check this option to allow the user to reset stats for the campaigns they have access to.
    Add to Zones -- Check this option to allow the user to assign a campaign to one or more zones.  They will only have access to the specific zones that you have selected.
    View Zones -- Check this option to allow the user to view zones.  You must assign one or more zones to this user if selecting this option.
    Update -- Allows the user to modify a zone.
    Add -- Allows the user to create a new zone.
    Delete -- Allows the user to delete a zone.
    View Code -- Allows to user to generate the ad tags for a zone.


    Advertiser, Zone and Site Access

    Select All Advertisers this user will have access to:

    Select all advertisers this user will manage.  Use the CTRL key to make multiple selections.

    Inherit Advertisers created by other users -- Choose this option to automatically have this user inherit advertisers created by the administrator or by other Publishers.

    Select All Zones this user will have access to

    Select all zones this user will manage.  Use the CTRL key to make multiple selections.

    Inherit Zones created by other users -- Check this option to have this user inherit zones created by other Publishers.

    Select All sites this user will have access to

    Select all sites this user will manage.  Use the CTRL key to make multiple selections.  This option is available only in the multi-site version of Ban Man Pro.

    Inherit Newly Created Sites -- Choose this option so that this user automatically inherits newly created sites. 

    Sites

    The sites screen allows you to specify a listing of all sites managed in Ban Man Pro.  Ban Man Pro licenses are sold based on the number of sites.  The default license handles a single site. 

    Add New

    The sites screen allows you to specify a listing of all sites managed in Ban Man Pro.  Use the Add New Site button to add a new site, then specify the parameters below: 

    Site Name

    Enter the descriptive name of the site.  This will appear in the drop-down menu at the top of all screens throughout Ban Man Pro allowing you to quickly navigate to an individual site.

    Web Site URL

    Enter the URL of the web site. 

    Full Domain URL for Ban Man Pro Main Program

    This option allows you to define a custom URL for this specific site.  The custom URL would be utilized in the ad tags.

    This URL must point to the a.aspx file.

    Leave this field empty to use the same URL defined under the setup area. If you are defining a unique URL make sure this URL is setup to point to the same location where Ban Man Pro is installed.

    Select the Advertisers available on this site

    Use this option to assign existing advertisers to a new site.

    Select Users assigned to this site

    Use this option to assign user/publisher accounts to this site.

    Online Orders
    This option displays all advertising orders placed through your web site.
    View All

    The Online Orders option displays a list of all orders that have been submitted through your web site.  Click the Detail column to view the detailed information for an order.  Because this page contains credit card information, you should only access this url using the secure protocal (https).

    Online Order Setup

    The Online Order Setup area allows you to enable two options so that:

    1) Advertisers can signup online

    2) Existing advertisers can purchase advertising.

    The online purchase option simply collects information and does not automatically process the credit card.

    Enable Advertiser Signup

    Through this process advertisers can signup. Once they login as an advertiser, they can purchase advertising if you have enabled the option called "Enable Advertisers to purchase Advertising".

    Message Displayed To Advertiser After Signup

    This message is displayed in the browser as soon as a prospective advertiser has completed the signup form.

    Email Sent to New Advertiser After Signup

    This option allows you to customize the email subject and message sent to an advertiser after completing the signup form.

    If enabled, advertisers can purchase advertising once they have logged into the advertiser console. This option can be disabled for individual advertisers by editing the advertiser.

    Order Types

    Before you can accept online orders for advertising, you must define the types, quantities, and price.  To Add a new order type, click "Add Order Type".  The fields are defined below:

    Description (required)

    Enter a description.  For example, "50,000 Impressions", or "1000 Clicks", or "1 Month Sponosorship".

    Order Total Cost (required)

    Enter the cost or price of the advertising.  This must be the total cost and NOT the cost per click or cost per 1000 impressions.

    Make this option available to all NEW advertisers

    By checking this option each time you add a new advertiser this option is made available to them.

    Existing Advertisers who may purchase this option

    Select any existing advertisers that you would like to make this purchase option available to.


    Campaign Properties

    Automatically Activate Campaign

    If checked the campaign will be automatically approved when purchased.  If unchecked, the campaign will remain inactive until you approve it.

    Allow Advertiser to Upload their Banner

    Check this option to allow advertisers to upload their own banners.  If unchecked, they must select from an existing banner. Currently only standard banners are supported.

    Default Campaign

    Check this box to make the campaign a default campaign versus a standard campaign.


    Date/Time Information

    Start Date (required)

    You can either set the start date to the purchase date, or allow the advertiser to choose one.

    End Date (required)

    You can either set the end date to X days after the start date or allow the advertiser to choose one.

    Daily Start/End Time

    Select the period of time to display the ad.   For example to display a campaign between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM, select the appropriate times from the drop-down list.  ** Setting the start time equal to 12:00 AM and the end time equal to 12:00 AM will cause the banner to rotate during all hours.

    Note: This is a Daily Start/End time.  It does not simply apply to the first and last day but rather applies to each and every day.

    Days of Week

    Select the days to show the campaign.   For example, the advertiser might choose to display an ad only on weekdays.   In this case, select Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. ** If using this option, be sure to include a default campaign in the zone that uses this campaign.  This will prevent your web pages from displaying white space if no campaigns are available.


    Distribution/Other Information

    Distribution (required)

    Select the campaign distribution type.  Choices include:

    • Equally Distributed By Day over Flight Dates -- Select this distribution of you want Ban Man Pro to equally spread the impressions over the campaign Flight Dates by day.  This option can only be applied to CPM type ads.  For example, if you enter a quantity of 30,000 in 30 days then Ban Man Pro will attempt to serve 1000 impressions per day.
    • Evenly Spread over remaining time -- Use this option to spread the remaining quantity evenly over the remaining time.  This option uses a normalized distribution so that more impressions are served on days that have higher traffic.  Ban Man Pro determines how often to show the campaign based on previous statistics.  It uses the period that you defined in the admin setup area under "Number of Weeks to base Zone Averages On".
    • Weighted in Each Zone -- Select this option if you will be managing the impression of each campaign via a weighting system.  Ban Man Pro now supports 3 weighting systems, 1-100, 1-1000 and a relative weighting system.  You will learn more about the weighting system when creating a zone.

    Type (required)

    Select the campaign type. 

    • CPM -- Cost Per Thousand campaign.   Select this campaign when the advertiser is paying you based on the number of impressions.  For example, if the advertiser has purchased 5000 banner impressions and is paying you $30 per thousand, select CPM.
    • Per Click -- Select Per Click if the advertiser is paying you each time a user clicks on the banner ad.  For example, if the advertiser is paying $0.50 cents each time a user clicks on the ad, then select Per Click.
    • Flat Rate -- Select Flat Rate if the advertiser is paying you a flat rate for the advertising campaign.  For example, if you sold the advertiser all impressions on your homepage for $1000, then select Flat Rate.  Also select this if you are not limiting the amount of impressions are clicks and are expiring the campaign by dates only.

    Quantity (required)

    Enter the quantity sold to the advertiser.   For CPM type campaigns, enter the number of impressions sold.  For Per Click campaigns, enter the maximum number of clicks the advertiser has committed to.  For Flat Rate campaigns, there is no need to enter a value as campaign validation is based solely on the Start/End Date and Times as well as the days selected.

    Impression and Click Capping

    Use this option to place a daily, weekly, or monthly cap on the number of Impressions (CPM Campaigns and Flat Rate only), or on the number of clicks (Per Click campaigns only).  For example, if a campaign is set with a daily cap of 1000 impressions and 1000 impressions have been served by noon the campaign will discontinue serving impressions for the remainder of the day.

    Cost

    Enter the cost to the advertiser.  For CPM type campaigns, enter the cost per thousand.   For Per Click campaigns, enter the Cost Per Click.  For Flat Rate campaigns, enter the full amount being charged to the advertiser.

    Frequency Cap

    Enter a frequency cap to limit the number of times this campaign is displayed to the same user.  This option only appears if you have enabled the frequency cap option under setup.   A campaign can be capped based on impressions or clicks.  For example, when based on clicks after the user clicks a particular ad it will no longer be displayed.

    Session Length

    Select the amount of time that defines a session for this campaign.  For example, if entering a frequency cap of 5 and a session length of 2 hours, a person will never see this campaign more than 5 times every 2 hours.  Note that this option applies only if entering a frequency cap greater than 0.

    Track ROI

    Select this option to measure acquisitions from this campaign.  ROI is an abbreviation for Return On Investment.  Advertisers who wish to measure the success of a campaign may require the measurement of sales, leads, or some other type of transaction or acquisition.  For example, if a web visitor clicks on a banner ad, then visits the advertised site and makes a purchase this can be recorded as an Acquisition that directly resulted from the campaign.  Other events such as signups could also be measured.

    Here is how Ban Man Pro measures an Acquisition:

    1. The advertiser places the ROI tracking code on any page they wish to track as an acquisition or sale resulting from this banner or link.  
    2. Ban Man Pro will place a cookie on the user's computer when clicking an ad.

    The custom email reports option allows you to create custom email reports that can be sent daily, weekly or monthly.  The reports can be sent in HTML format or as a CSV attachment.  The reports are triggered by the first banner impression or click that occurs after midnight each day.  Weekly reports are sent on Sundays, Monthly reports on the 1st day of each month.  If a report is limited to a specific Advertiser or Campaign, and the Advertiser or Campaign is deleted then the report will also be deleted.
    Reports
    This option is used for displaying Ban Man Pro statistics/reports.
    Overall Campaign Summary
    The overall campaign summary report shows a list of all active campaigns.  To sort by a column, click the column header.  To sort in the opposite direction, click the header a second time.
    Chart
    The chart shows a bar graph of total impressions in the past 7 days.
    Custom Reports

    Custom reports allows you to create a report for a specific period of time and a specific report type.

    Advertiser

    Select the advertiser to include in the report.  Select All Advertisers to include all advertisers.

    Campaign

    Once a specific advertiser has been selected, can you then limit a report to a specific campaign or show all campaigns for the selected advertiser.

    Report Type

    Select a specific report type.  These include:

    Summary -- The summary report is a generic report that allows you to choose how to breakdown the report.  The report can be broken down by Advertiser, Banner, Campaign, Zone, Site, Day, Country, Region/State, Browser and Operating System.  Any combination of these options can be used.

    Click Detail -- Provides the details of each Click-Thru during the specified period for the selected campaign.  Information includes the Date/Time, Browser Type, and the User's IP Address.

    Impressions/Clicks Chart -- Provides a day-by-day chart of impressions/clicks over a user-defined period. 

    Executive -- The executive report is only available to administrators and provides an overall summary of all campaigns for the specified period.  The report also provides a summary for each campaign since the campaign start date.  Next, a summary of all campaigns with future start dates is displayed.   Last, if geo-targeting is enabled, a breakdown of impressions by each country is displayed.

    Billing Summary -- The billing summary simply provides a cost estimate based on the campaign type and the cost for the campaign.  Unless you enter the cost of each campaign this feature is not very useful.

    Campaign Expiration --  Displays all campaigns that expire during the selected date period.  This can be used for planning future ad sales

    ROI/Acquisition Summary -- Use this report to display the total number of acquisitions and total dollar amount (if recorded) for one or more campaigns.  This option is only application to campaigns in which the ROI is being tracked.

    ROI/Acquisition Detail -- Use this report to display each individual acquisition that has been recorded.  Parameters displayed include ROI/Acquisition description, amount (if recorded), Date/Time, Browser Header, and IP address.  More information on ROI Tracking.

    Browser Header Click Summary -- Use this report to create a report listing the most common browser headers that are clicking your ads.  This report is useful for spotting common spider headers. 

    URL/Page Click Summary -- Use this report to create a report listing which URL and pages resulted in each click.

     

    Date Grouping

    Select a date grouping in order to group by specific date periods such as Month, Day of Week, Year, Quarter, etc.

    All Sites

    Check this option to Include stats for all sites.

    Ignore Dates

    Check this option to ignore dates and report on all available stats.

    Start Date/End Date

    If you have not checked Ignore Dates, then select a valid start and end date.

    Export this Report to Excel

    Once a report has been created, use the "Export this Report To Excel" button to export the report to excel.

    Zone Usage By Campaign Type/ Predicted Inventory

    This report displays a breakdown by day of the number of impressions by each campaign type.  This report can also be used to predict future inventory of available impressions.  These include:

    • Keyword Campaigns
    • Equally Distributed Campaigns
    • Evenly Spread Campaigns
    • Weighted Campaigns
    • Default Campaigns

    This report can be displayed for all zones, specific zones, or for all zones of a specific size.  This report is useful for determining if you have oversold specific zones.

    Notes regarding predicted inventory:  Please not this feature may be highly innacurate if your traffic is highly variable.  Projected available impressions is calculated by Projected Zone Impressions minus Projected Equally and Evenly spread campaign impressions and DOES NOT include weighted campaigns and defaults.  Red indicates that a zone may not have sufficient inventory available.

    Audit Log

    The audit feature allows you to keep a record of all changes made in the system.  This is useful to track your users/publishers.  The feature is enabled under Preferences/Setup in the section called Auditing Options at the end of the setup section. 

    Clear All Events

    Use this option to empty the autit log and clear all events that are stored in the database.

    Error Log
    This displays a log of any system errors that were logged in the system.  These errors are only logged if you enable the option called "Write Error to Database" under the admin setup/ Error Reporting Options section.
    Setup
    The setup area of Ban Man Pro defines important default information used throughout the program.  The setup must be defined before using any other functionality in the program.
    Modifying Setup Information

    The setup area defines important defaults used throughout Ban Man Pro.


    Administration Information

    User Name

    Enter the username for the administrator account.  The administrator account has full access to all operations in Ban Man Pro.

    Password

    Enter the password for the administrator account.  The administrator account has full access to all operations in Ban Man Pro.

    License Key

    Enter the license key that was provided when you purchased Ban Man Pro.


    Email Information

    Administrator Email Address for sending reports and system messages

    Used by Ban Man Pro for sending reports and campaign expiration notifications.  If entering multiple addresses, separate the addresses using a comma and no spaces.

    From Email Address for Reports

    Specify an email address to be used as the From Email address on all email reports.

    From Name for Reports

    Specify a name to be used as the From Name on all email reports.  If no name is specified the From Email address will be used as the name.

    Mail Server

    Specifies the SMTP mail server to be used for sending email.  Typically the mail server address is mail.yourdomain.com but the address may vary.  You may need to contact your web host to obtain the proper SMTP relay address.

    Use An SSL Connection

    Check this box if your mail server requires a secure connection. For example, this is required to send messages through smtp.gmail.com.

    Mail Server UserName

    Enter the username to be used to send email through the mail server.

    Mail Server Password

    Enter the password to be used to send email through the mail server.

    Email Daily Report

    Select this option for a daily report summarizing all campaigns.  This report is emailed directly to the administrator shortly after midnight each day.  A sample report is shown below.  The format is HTML.  To customize the text sent in this report, click Setup--Report Templates.

    Email Weekly Report

    Select this option for a weekly report summarizing all campaigns during the past week.  This report is emailed directly to the administrator shortly after midnight on each Sunday.  The report covers the previous week spanning Sunday to Saturday.  The format is HTML.  To customize the text sent in this report, click Setup--Report Templates.

    Email Monthly Report

    Select this option to receive a monthly report summarizing all campaigns during the past month.  This report is sent on the first day of each month covering the previous month.  The format of this report is HTML.  To customize the text sent in this report, click Setup--Report Templates.

    Email Daily Report of Campaigns Starting That Day

    Check this option to receive a daily email showing all campaigns that start today.  This email is sent just after midnight and is triggered by the first impression or click after midnight server time.

    Email When Campaign Expires

    Check this box if you would like to be notified each time a campaign expires.  If checking this option, be sure that you have selected the proper email program which is supported by your web hosting provider.  This option will also send an email notification to the administrator each time a campaign approaches 95% expiration.  Note:  On high traffic sites this feature is not recommended as it requires an additional request to the database each time a banner request is made.  This tends to slightly decrease the performance.

    Send Warning X Days Before Expiration

    Specify the number of days before a campaign expires to send a campaign expiration warning message. 


    Server Information

    Full Domain URL for Ban Man Pro Main Program

    Specifies the full domain path to the Ban Man Pro main application.  For example, if you placed the Ban Man Pro application in http://www.yourdomain.com/banmanpro/ then the correct path would be  http://www.yourdomain.com/banmanpro/ad.aspx

    The main file name is ad.aspx.

    Note:  The first time you visit this screen upon successfully installing Ban Man Pro, the fields are automatically populated.  However, until you submit the values they are not entered into the database.

    Physical server path of Ban Man Pro Application

    Specifies the physical file path to the root folder where Ban Man Pro is installed.  This is used for Ban Man Pro to find the location of the Language Files.

    Physical file path for uploaded ads

    In order to use the file upload option under the tools menu, you must specify the physical file path to which images will be uploaded.  By default, Ban Man Pro sets this parameter to a directory called "ads".

    URL to images directory for uploaded ads

    Enter the full URL to the image ads.  This must correspond to the same physical directory as entered above.  Ban Man Pro defaults this to the "ads" directory. 

    Alternative Help File URL

    This is used to call the help files from an alternative URL.  This is useful if the software is installed on a 64-bit server that does not support calling an access database.  The Ban Man Pro help files are stored in an Access database.

    Other Information

    Require Unique Clicks Every X Hours

    Enter the number of hours in which clicks must be unique.  This must be an integer value.  Ban Man Pro will check if the user has clicked on the same banner during X hours.  If the user has already clicked the image during that period the additional click will not be counted in the database.  The user is still redirected but the click is not counted.  Typically this value is set to 1.  Some sites find that a value greater than 0 is required in order to prevent spiders from inflating their click counts.  Users are validated solely on IP address so for users coming from behind a proxy firewall, this feature will not work properly.

    Base Smoothing algorithm on X minutes of stats

    Select the number of minutes to base the Equally Distributed smoothing algorithm on.  High traffic sites with continuous traffic work great with a value in the range of 5--15 minutes.  Low traffic sites may require a higher value in the 30-60 minute range, especially if the traffic is erratic.     Number of Weeks to base Zone Averages On

    Specify the number of weeks to base zone averages on.  This is used for the algorithm that displays campaigns that are Evenly Spread over the remaining dates of the campaigns.  This is also used for computing the zone averages which are displayed when viewing all zones, or editing an individual zone.  The default is 7 days/1 week. These stats are updated just after midnight each day and reflect the past X days ending yesterday.  Impressions shown today are not reflected in the average.  Note that you can update these values at any time by updating your preferences.  This forces Ban Man Pro to recalculate the values.

    Default Campaign Length

    Specify the default campaign length.  Ban Man Pro will use this when creating a new campaign. Ban Man Pro defaults the start date to today, while the end date will be X days in the future as determined by the "Default Campaign Length". 

    Hide URL When Mouse Hoovers Over Image

    Check this option to hide URL's when the mouse is held over a banner ad.  Instead of displaying the URL at the bottom of the browser Ban Man Pro will display the text that was specified under "Alt Text".  If nothing is specified under Alt Text the user will see nothing at the bottom of their browser. 

    Support Frequency Caps using Cookies

    This option is provided to limit the number of times a banner advertisement is shown to a single visitor.  For example, you might limit a banner to 3 impressions per visitor in X hours. Please view the following support article for more information.

    Support Companion Ads using Cookies

    Check this option to support companion ads.  Companion ads are used to serve different ads from the same advertiser in two different ads on the same page at the same time.

    Competitor Exclusion Enabled

    Check this option to enable the competitor exclusion feature.  The competitor exclusion feature is used to prevent competitor ads from showing in another zone on the same page.  It can also be used to prevent different campaigns from the same advertiser from showing on the same page.

    Record Click Detail

    Check this option to record the user's IP Address each time a banner is clicked.  This feature is required if you would like to filter out duplicate clicks using the option of "Require Unique Clicks Every X Hours".  If disabled, duplicate clicks cannot be prevented, however, the database will grown in size much slower. 

    Use p align to align banners

    Use this option to align banners and any text underneath them.  If the ad tags were placed inside a table with the alignment already specified then this option is not necessary.  

    Use Full Text Indexing for Keyword Searches

    Check this option to use SQL Full-Text Searches when passing Keywords to Ban Man Pro.  In order to use this option Full-Text indexing must be installed  on the server. Once you select this option you must also full-text index the Ban Man Pro SQL database by visit Tools--Full Text Indexing Options running to tool to index the Campaigns table.

    Automatically Remove Expired Campaigns from zones

    Check this option to force Ban Man Pro to automatically remove all expired campaigns from each zone.  This task will be performed once each day at midnight.

    Allow Advertisers to define email report options

    Check this option to allow advertisers to configure their email reporting options.  They will then have access to defining their email address, daily and weekly reporting options.  If you have not configured your server for email support DO NOT allow them to define this option.

    Enable spider detection

    Check this option to detect spiders and prevent the display of banners to spiders.  You can update the list of spiders as defined in the useragent.txt file.  You can also define individual IP addresses to treat as spiders inside ip.txt.  Note, if you change either of these files, you must logout of the admin area to reset the application and begin using the updated files.  Also, the format of the files is a carriage return.  Each line should have one IP address in ip.txt and one browser header per line in useragent.txt.

    **Note:  This feature can cause a 40% decrease in performance and should be an important consideration before enabling the feature.

    Enable Online Purchasing of Advertising

    Version 4 of Ban Man Pro supports a simple method of allowing advertisers to purchase ad space online.  Check this option to allow orders to be submitted online.

    Branded Banner for Admin and Advertiser Console

    Specify the URL of an image to display at the top of the administration and advertiser console instead of displaying the Ban Man Pro image.

    Footer Text

    Use this field to specify custom text that will appear at the bottom/footer of the Ban Man Pro administration console.

    Footer Link

    Specify a full HTTP address to use as the link for Footer Text.  Typically this might be your company domain name.

    Enable Geo-Targeting

    Checking this option will turn on country geo-targeting.  This option cannot be enabled until country geo-targeting data has been imported into Ban Man Pro.  For step-by-step instructions including sources of geo-targeting data, please click here.

    Pass ID's in Querystring

    This option is for advanced users who want to pass all querystring parameters onto the advertisers web site when a banner is clicked.

    Append ID's to IIS Log Files

    This option is for advanced users who wish to append all ID's to the IIS log files.  This includes AdvertiserID, BannerID, CampaignID, ZoneID, SiteID, etc.

    Locale Identifier

    Select your specific country in the drop-down menu to customize the format of dates, percentages, etc.

    Default Language

    Select a default language that is pre-selected when logging into Ban Man Pro.

    Number of Hours for Tracking Unique ROI Acquisitions

    Specify the number of hours to record unique ROI transactions.  This prevents duplicate ROI Acquisitions from being recorded with the same ID during the specified number of hours.

    Header Used to obtain client IP Address

    This option is for advanced users who may be behind a proxy server and need to use a different header to obtain the client IP address.


    Reports Available to Advertisers

    Select the reports that your advertisers will have access to.


    Error Reporting Options

    Use this option to notify the administrator when a server error occurs in Ban Man Pro.  Options include:

    Email Error To Administrator -- This will email the error to the administrator.  No more than 5 messages will be sent per 10 minute period to prevent the system from sending numerous emails in the event of a continual error.

    Write Error to Windows Event Log -- This will write the error to server Application Event Log.

    Clear Error And Continue -- This will clear the error so nothing is displayed to the end user.

    Display Error In Browser -- This will display the error in the browser and discontinue processing.


    Auditing Options

    Use this option to enable auditing.  This will track individual tasks performed by your users.


    Supported languages

    Select which languages you wish to make available throughout the web interface


    Default Sorting

    Select the default sorting used on the "View All" screens throughout the web interface.

    Spider List (IP Addresses)

    If you have enabled spider detection under "Setup Information", then you must define what IP addresses should be filtered by Ban Man Pro.  Ban Man Pro will not show banners to these IP addresses and will not count clicks coming from these IP addresses.

    When adding multiple IP addresses you can enter one IP address per line.

    Spider List (Headers)

    If you have enabled spider detection under "Setup Information", then you must define what browser headers should be filtered by Ban Man Pro.  Ban Man Pro will not show banners to these specific browser headers and will not count clicks coming from these headers.  This feature is useful for filtering known spider browser headers.

    IP Block List
    Enter IP addresses that you wish to show ads to but do not wish to count impressions or clicks.  Please keep in mind with 3rd party ads Ban Man Pro will not count an impression or click but the 3rd party will still count both.  This is useful if you wish to serve ads to your company employees so you can determine that everything is working but can avoid tracking the stats.
    Report Templates

    Report templates allow you to customize the email messages sent to both the advertiser and the administrator.  Both the email subject and body can be customized.

    Daily Report, Weekly Report and Monthly Report --  These reports are sent daily, weekly and monthly to both the advertiser and administrator.  It is best to customize these reports from the standpoint of the advertiser so they make sense when viewed by an advertiser.

    Only the reports sent to Advertisers and Users can be customized. The Administrator report cannot be customized. The following fields can be used to customize the Daily, Weekly and Monthly Report. Include <HTML><BODY> and </BODY></HTML> tags to make this message HTML. The report MUST contain repeater tags to define which area repeats. The tags are ##StartRepeater## and ##EndRepeater##.

    Use ##StartDate## to insert the report start date and use ##EndDate## to insert the report end date.  These fields can be placed in both the Subject and in the HTML for the body of the message.  The HTML templates should contain HTML tags as the report will be sent in HTML format.  The actual report will be appended to your message.  DO NOT include <HTML><BODY> or </BODY></HTML> tags.

    Campaign Expiration Report Sent X Days before Campaign Expires -- This report is sent X days before a campaign expires.  Include <HTML><BODY> and </BODY></HTML> tags to make this message HTML.  Dynamic Variables include:

    ##CampaignName## Inserts the name of the campaign.
    ##SiteName## Inserts the name of the site.
    ##CompanyName## Inserts the company name.
    ##CampaignStartDate## Inserts the campaign start date.
    ##CampaignEndDate## Inserts the campaign end date.
    ##CampaignDistribution## Inserts the campaign distribution (Even, Weighted, Keyword)
    ##CampaignType## Inserts the Campaign Type (CPM, CPC, Flat Rate)

    Ad Templates

    Modify these templates to modify the default code used for Flash banners, floating ads, and full page ads/transition ads.

    Flash Banner that Prompts user to Download/Install Flash -- This template is used for flash banners and does not detect if flash is installed.  This will prompt the user to download flash if it is not installed.  You must include ##Width##, ##Height##, ##FileURL## in order to dynamically insert the Width, Height, and Flash File URL respectively.

    Flash Banner that automatically detects if flash is installed -- This template is used for flash banners and should contain "sniffer" code to detect if flash is installed.  You must include ##Width##, ##Height##, ##FileURL## in order to dynamically insert the Width, Height, and Flash File URL respectively. Insert ##ImageURLL## to insert the alternative image for non-flash browsers.

    Template for Full Page Transition Ad -- Specify the HTML and Javascript to be used for a full page transition ad.  A transition ad covers the entire page hiding all content until the ad is closed.  You must include ##Width##, ##Height##, ##AdContent## in order to dynamically insert the Width, Height, and the content of the advertisement respectively.

    Template for Floating/Drop-In Ad  -- Specify the HTML/Javascript for a floating ad that floats on top of all other content.  You must include ##Width##, ##Height##, ##AdContent## in order to dynamically insert the Width, Height, and the content of the advertisement respectively.

    Template for Sponsorship Text Ad -- This template controls the look and feel of the Sponsorship Text Ad.  You must include ##Headline##, ##TargetURL##, ##Description## and ##DisplayURL## in order to dynamically insert the Headline, Target URL, Description and Display URL of the advertisement respectively.

    Advanced Settings

    Ban Man Pro offers an optimization feature for high-traffic web sites.  This feature uses temporary SQL tables for recording statistics and querying valid campaigns.  This significantly reduces the number of database queries and enhances performance.  The only drawbacks are your statistics will be delayed by up to 2 minutes and it is possible for a campaign to slightly over serve because of the 2 minute delay.

    To use this feature you must have administrator access to the SQL server in order to make sure the SQL Server Agent is running and in order to create a SQL Job.

    Demographic Targeting

    If your web site collects demographic information, this option can be used to target ads to specific people.  For example, if you collect gender you can then serve unique ads to males versus females.   Other examples include Age, Household income, zip code, etc.

    Up to 4 demographic fields can be defined and targeted.  Field types include:

    • Text -- An example would be gender where defined values would be Male and Female.
    • Number -- An example might be number of siblings where you might define values of 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 etc.
    • Range -- An example would be age groups where you define ranges such as <13, 14-22, 23-35, >35, etc.
    • Call by Value -- This is used when you want to just pass the internal DemographicID to Ban Man Pro.  For example, if you create a demographic field for Gender and Male is DemographicID=1 and Female is DemographicID=2 then you would pass values of 1 or 2.

    Note: When demographic values are passed Ban Man Pro cookies the value for up to 365 days.  This is done so that when a click is later registered the demographic data can still be attached to the click.

    Once a demographic value has been defined and statistics have been recorded you cannot delete the value.

    Ban Man Pro offers a range of tools serving various purposes.
    Overview of Tools

    Ban Man Pro offers a range of tools for performing various operations.  These tools are defined below:

    Import Geo-Targeting Data -- Use this tool to import Geo-Targeting data that was purchased from a 3rd party such as IP2Location.com or MaxMind.  Please click here for more information on geo-targeting.

    Assign Geo-Targeting Data to Campaigns  -- Use tool if you have imported Geo-Targeting data and need to assign specific countries to all existing campaigns.

    Delete Click Detail 

    Use this tool to delete (truncate) the table holding click detail.  This may free up a large amount of database space.  Your reports will continue to show total impressions and clicks, however, you will no longer be able to report on individual clicks such as IP Address and browser header.

    Delete Clicks for a specific IP Address -- Use this tool to delete all clicks registered for a specific IP Address. All click statistics associated with the IP address will be deleted. Data can only be deleted if click detail is being tracked.

    Send Email Reports

    Use this tool to email advertising reports in the event that the automated messages were not sent.

    Truncate Log File

    Use this tool to truncate the log file and free up some database space.  Be patient, this can take up to 10 minutes.  Please note that truncating the log file will not delete any data from Ban Man Pro.  This feature simply shrinks the log file.  What is the log file?  SQL Server logs every transaction that takes place on the database (insert, delete, update, etc) so that the database can be rebuilt in the event that the server crashes.

    Full-Text Indexing Options

    Before you can use the full functionality of Keywords, you must enable Full-Text Indexing on your server.  This tool will allow you to enable full text indexing. 

    Keyword Test Tool

    Use this tool to test Keyword Campaigns. 

    Stop/Start Ad Serving

    Use this tool to temporarily stop all ad serving. 

    Remove Expired Campaigns from ALL Zones

    Use this tool to remove all expired campaigns from all zones. This will not delete any campaigns, but simply removes them from being assigned to any zones.

    Reindex All Tables in Database

    Periodically (perhaps monthly) you should perform a database reorganization on all the indexes on all the tables in your database. This will rebuild the indexes so that the data is no longer fragmented. Fragmented data can cause SQL Server to perform unnecessary data reads, slowing down SQL Server's performance.

    This tool will automatically reindex every index in every table of any database you select, and provide a fillfactor of 90%.  When DBCC DBREINDEX is used to rebuild indexes, keep in mind that as the indexes on a table are being rebuilt, that the table becomes unavailable for use by your users. For example, when a non-clustered index is rebuilt, a shared table lock is put on the table, preventing all but SELECT operations to be performed on it. When a clustered index is rebuilt, an exclusive table lock is put on the table, preventing any table access by your users. Because of this, you should only run this command when users don't need access to the tables being reorganized.
